WELCOME BACK TO THE PLANETARIUM!

Updated: Jun 2, 2022

Hello everyone! We hope you all had an amazing summer. Welcome back to the Milham Planetarium, Williams College's very own hub for exploring the vastness of the universe. We're so excited to be back for another semester, and we're particularly looking forward to being able to present our weekly shows in the planetarium itself! Once again, as we tell you the myriad of star stories from across space and time, we may project the cosmos and the celestial bodies that inspired and continue to inspire these stories onto the domed ceiling of the planetarium. After over a year away from the Zeiss Skymaster, we know they will come to life like never before.

Weekly public shows will be held on Friday evenings at 8pm. These shows are open to on-campus students, faculty, and staff. They are limited to 30 seats, so be sure to reserve yours today at the BOOKING page! On that page, you will also find the option to organize a private show. These are open to anyone and will be held virtually using Zoom and the Stellarium software we became so familiar with last year. All of these shows will be hosted by our amazing new team of planetarium presenters! Be sure to check out the MEET THE TAs page to get to know us. We're so excited for what this year at the planetarium has to offer. We hope you are too, and we cannot wait to see you there soon!

One more thing! You might have noticed that the website has some new art. Haven't seen it yet? Scroll up! This incredible piece was made by Nadiya Atkinson '21.5, an artist and fellow Williams student. It depicts the Old Hopkins Observatory, home of the Milham Planetarium, proudly situated among the Berkshires. The distinction between the distant mountains and the night sky above disappears with the background as if the observatory were an island among a cosmic sea teeming with stars and planets. Cassiopeia, the official constellation of Williams College due to its distinctive "W" shape, hangs above the observatory like a sort of guiding stellar beacon. The full work can be seen below! Nadiya has done several other amazing pieces, as well as been involved in every aspect of countless theater productions over the years. I highly recommend that you go no further with your day before checking out her portfolio on her website here. Clicking on her piece below will also take you there. Nadiya, thank you so much for your contribution to the Milham Planetarium!
