MICHAEL ARENA

Pronouns: He/Him/His
Class: 2023
Major: Astrophysics
Hometown: Newtown, CT
Favorite Astro Object: Andromeda Galaxy

I decided I would become an astronomer or physicist at the age of 11, soon after watching a supercomputer simulation of the merger between the Milky Way and Andromeda galaxies.  I’ve done research on statistical methods for measuring turbulence in planet-forming disks around young stars, the ultraviolet spectra of nearby analogues of some of the first galaxies to form in the universe, and the self-organization of contractile waves in a simple model of the slime mold physarum polycephalum.  In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my friends, going for walks, singing, and studying physics.
